DEPARTMENT trailer: A must watch for Amitabh Bachchan and Sanjay Dutt

DEPARTMENT trailer: Must watch for Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt

Watch the promising trailer of Ram Gopal Varma’s next film

Loyal RGV fans have still not given up on the maverick filmmaker despite a string of duds to his credit. His forthcoming film, Department, which is based on the Mumbai police department reminds us of films like Satya and Company, which made him a cult figure. The highlights of the trailer are Amitabh Bachchan and Sanjay Dutt, who seem to have sunk their teeth into the author-backed roles. Ramu seems to have been heavily inspired by his friend, Puri Jagannath, who rediscovered Sr B in his film, Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap.
The lines are full of punch which go well with films in this genre. The action looks awesome and newbie Rana Daggubati holds his ground even while sharing screen space with the ‘Baap‘ of all actors. From the trailer, it looks like RGV, who made Satya and Company, is still alive and might silence his critics once and for all, with this film. The only concern we have is the non-film texture it has since it has been shot on a digital camera; but that is nothing to lose sleep over.
Wethinks the maverick filmmaker’s Department has the potential of being remembered as one of his better films. Do you agree?

DEPARTMENT first look: Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt come together again

Department first look: Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt come together again

Ram Gopal Varma is ready with his new action-drama film based on the working of the police force

The last time Amitabh Bachchan and Sanjay Dutt came together, which was in Sujoy Ghosh’s Aladin, it wasn’t a really memorable experience. But this time around could be much different. Maverick filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has brought the two actors together again, for his new film, Department. The first look of the film shows promise, but of late RGV has earned ill repute, as most of his recent projects have been major disappointments.
An official statement says, “Department is above all a story of a terrifying power struggle within the bowels of the mother of all powers – the police department.” The film also stars Rana Daggubati and those in the know claim that the script is very impressive. According to RGV, “The idea behind the poster is to project a thought of ENOUGH OF BOYS…THE MEN ARE HERE, REAL POWER COMES FROM REAL MEN.”
Explaining the characters in his film he said, “The character Sarje Rao played by Mr Bachchan represents a Machiavellian character whose power lies in his manipulation and deception. The character Mahadev played by Sanjay Dutt represents an ultra dynamic character whose power lies in his dual personality which he very successfully hides. The character Shivnarayan played by Rana Duggabati represents a shoot-first-talk-later kind of man whose power lies in obedience to people who he respects!”
The first look has managed to create some expectation of this Department, but we reserve our own opinion for the film.

Nathalia Kaur’s item song is the best: Ram Gopal Varma

Nathalia Kaur's item song is the best: Ram Gopal Varma

The filmmaker says Dan Dan is the best item song of his career, even better than Rangeela and Khallas

Ram Gopal Varma is all for item songs. The filmmaker says the item number Dan dan cheeni from his upcoming film Department is his best offering in the genre ever. “Over the years, since Company, I have not been giving enough focus on the songs because I am doing very different kind of films. After Rangeela and Khallas songs, I think Dan dan is the best item song [Watch song]. I think this is the best item song of my career,” said Varma. Dan dan features Indo-Brazilian model Nathalia Kaur.
Varma acknowledges how important item songs have become nowadays, and believes they are like a moving portfolio for actors. “I believe that item song is a moving portfolio. Many female actors feel that they will not have a career if they do an item song, but I think that is wrong. The way you do a layout of pictures for a magazine, item songs are moving portfolios,” said the 50-year-old. Department features Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt and Rana Daggubati. It will release May 18 this year.

Will Ram Gopal Varma hit gold at the BO with ‘Department’?

Will Ramgopal Varma hit gold at the BO with ‘Department’?

We don’t remember what RGV’s last commercial success was, but this time he is playing to the gallery, no holds barred

In Bollywood, fortunes change every Friday. This does not hold true for Ram Gopal Varma. For the longest time he has been making the kind of films he wants to make, irrespective of BO figures. Surprisingly, his string of flop films didn’t affect the trust people had in him, especially those who invested in his films. Maybe a few of his recent films did make some money, but they were nowhere close to the successes of Satya or Company, for which he still wins applause.
We hear that with his Amitabh Bachchan-Sanjay Dutt starrer Department, RGV wants to reach out to a wider audience. Talking about his film in a recent interview he said, “Department is not based on gangsters. But yes, with Department, we are talking about the police department and with police department… and somewhere gangsters are also there. Having said that, the film’s format is very different from Company and Satya. It is more of a mass entertainer format.”
While we do not understand what he means by ‘format’, at the end of the day Department can be safely called a gangster flick told from the cops’ perspective. The trailer looks very promising, in spite of the forced item number by Brazilian hottie Nathalia Kaur. It seems that Ramu is trying too hard to please everyone with his next film and we just hope he doesn’t end up with his foot in his rather too big mouth.
